NGP Community Meeting Summary  

Date: July 15, 2025

Meeting Highlights:


Treasury Report

  • Current balance is $706.23.


Garden Party

  • The Events Committee Chair is seeking volunteers to assist in planning the Garden Party, scheduled for August 10, 2025.


Community Survey Results: 

  • The top request was for more community events.


Guest Speaker: Commissioner Ted Terry (District 6):

  • Commissioner Terry addressed community issues and offered support for the Garden Party.

  • Discussions on a proposed data center in South DeKalb have been postponed for 100 days, during which time regulations will be reviewed.

    • Environmental Concerns - Data centers significantly contribute to pollution, raising environmental concerns. The county will assess land-use regulations, including buffer distances and water usage limits.

    • Economic Impact -  While data centers may not create many jobs, they can generate tax revenue for local schools. A special account will manage this revenue for the Southwest Tax Allocation District.

    • Community Involvement - Residents are encouraged to get involved; Commissioner Terry will send out committee information. Opportunities exist for participating in water conservation programs and addressing community needs.

    • Board of Commissioners meetings occur on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month at 178 Sam St.


Water Rate Increase

  • A 10% increase in water rates will take effect on August 1, with additional increases planned for the future. Subsidies and discounts are available for low-income individuals and certain groups.


Upcoming Actions

  • Information will be compiled regarding proposed speed bumps and traffic-calming measures on Gresham Road. 

  • Speed bumps on Gresham. Please visit this link to learn how to request speed bumps and other traffic-calming measures. The road must be a local road, and the speed limit must be below 30 mph. (I think I said 35 mph last night). When you submit the petition, please feel free to copy me so I can stay informed about its progress.

  •  Strip mall in Gresham near I-20 for sale? Across from Bigelows (The Commissioner’s team will follow up on this)

  • Rain barrel workshop.  (The Commissioner’s team will follow up on this)

  • Toilet Retrofit Rebate Program (please share this link with members)

  • Standing water/sewer was reported near Cottonwood Dr.  (The Commissioner’s team will report to roads and drainage)

  • Illegal dumping and tall grass on the trail by Cottonwood Dr was reported (The Commissioner’s team will follow up with the Sanitation department re: mowing and copy the Executive team. Neighbors should keep reporting dumping to Keep DeKalb Beautiful email/phone kdb@dekalbcountyga.gov and 404.294.2010.)

  • Farmer’s Market (The Commissioner’s team will message a mobile market vendor and East Lake and Decatur Farmer's Market  and Avondale organizers to see how a community can get one started, copy Gresham leadership)

  • Coffee Shop/Vet/UPS store/restaurant/grocery store (The Commissioner’s team will research how you start requesting this kind of development in the neighborhood — through DDA (development assn or dept)

  • Abandoned cars were reported (The Commissioner’s team will follow up to get the exact location for the report.)

  • Entrenchment Park trail expanded (The Commissioner team will follow up with Parks & Rec)

Hi I'm never able to make the meetings but I definitely have an opinion about the data centers what should I do?
